Ingredients for BBQ Pork Ribs:
- 3–4 lbs. pork baby back ribs or St. Louis-style ribs
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- 2 cups beef or chicken broth
- 2 cups of your favorite BBQ sauce
- Olive oil for grilling
Instructions
Preparing the Dry Rub:
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). This will be your dry rub for the ribs.
Applying the Dry Rub:
- Pat the ribs dry with paper towels and remove the membrane from the back of the ribs if desired.
- Place the ribs on a baking sheet or large tray. Sprinkle the dry rub generously over both sides of the ribs and gently massage it into the meat to ensure even coverage.
Braising the Ribs:
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
- In a large roasting pan or Dutch oven, add the beef or chicken broth. Place a rack in the pan and position the ribs on the rack.
- Cover the pan with a lid or aluminum foil and braise the ribs in the preheated oven for 2.5-3 hours, or until they’re tender but not falling off the bone.
Cooling the Ribs:
- Once the ribs are done braising, allow them to cool to room temperature. This can be done by leaving them at room temperature for around an hour, or by placing them in the refrigerator if you plan to finish preparing them later (I usually do the refrigerated method so they don’t fall part on the grill while grilling).
Grilling the Ribs:
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Brush the ribs with olive oil and place them on the grill. Cook for 10-15 minutes total, turning occasionally, until heated through and they develop grill marks.
- During the last few minutes of grilling, baste the ribs with BBQ sauce and continue grilling until the sauce caramelizes and sticks to the ribs.
Serving:
- Once done, remove the grilled ribs from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before slicing.
- Slice the ribs between the bones and serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side.
- Enjoy with side of coleslaw, BBQ baked beans and your favorite drink.
